Morning Sickness

Sharon came to see me for the first time this week with severe morning sickness.  This was her third pregnancy & during the previous two, she had been severely nauseated the entire first trimester.  This time she wanted to try a different treatment for the problem.  She didn’t want to suffer through another three months of misery.

When I first saw her, Sharon’s face was very, very pale.  Her tongue had a very thick white coating.  She said she rarely threw up but could not tolerate the taste or smell of any food.  Other than severe morning sickness, her other pregnancies were uneventful.  She was an otherwise healthy 31 year old woman.  I told Sharon I thought I could help her.

She laid down on her back on the treatment table.  I used just a few points:  Pericardium 6 on her wrist, Stomach 36 on her lower leg & Conception Vessel 12 in the epigastric area.  I also did a few ear points.  Sharon remarked that the acupuncture was not painful and after the needles were inserted, she smiled and said she felt very relaxed.  She slept very deeply during her 30 minute treatment.  After the treatment, when she came into the waiting room., her face had regained a healthy glow and she was smiling.  Sharon said she felt much better, and in fact, was hungry.  I told her to have some lunch and then try to rest in the afternoon.

I wanted to see her for another appointment later that week, so she made one for Friday morning.  When Friday came, Sharon reported that after the treatment, she had experienced very little nausea for two days.  Her energy had been good and she had eaten several meals without a problem.  Unfortunately, the nausea returned in the evening of the second day.  She was violently ill again.   This time, with a lot of vomitting.  I told her that even though she felt very sick again, her response to the acupuncture was  encouraging.

I will see her again tomorrow.  I hope she’s feeling more relief.  Previously, she had not taken the herbal formula I made for her.  If she’s had an opportunity to drink it and found it tolerable, it would help her a great deal.
